World war one was a major war between 1898 and 1930. World war one took place between 1914 and 1918. The direct cause of WWI was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo on 28 June 1914, but there were many other factors in play that could have also caused the start of ww1. The causes of ww1 can be summed up in one term, and that is M.A.I.N.. The term M.A.I.N. stands for militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism, and all of these things are believed to be the cause of ww1. This was would be the largest war to ever take place at the time involving many countries fighting against each other. There were 2 main powers in the war, the axis powers and the allied powers. The U.S. was part of the allied powers and helped put an end to the war. This was had some positive and negative effects. In the U.S. the effects were positive as it brought the U.S. out of the great depression, but as for Germany ww1 gave them many war reparations, putting them into economic depression.
